Location Description:
First settled in 1757 to ferry people across the James River, Lynchburg is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Lynchburg enjoys general prosperity in large part due to its high-tech manufacturing economy.  The citys two largest employers, BWX Technologies and Areva NP, are international leaders in the field of nuclear power generation.  Other major manufacturing employers in Lynchburg include Parker Sealing Division, makers of seals and o-rings, Griffin Pipe Products, iron pipe and fitting makers, and valve actuator manufacturer Flowserve.   Snack food processor Frito-Lay is also an important part of the local economy.  Education has been a major force in Lynchburg for many years, and there are now six colleges and universities that call Lynchburg home.  Liberty University, the largest of the local institutions by far, was founded by the late evangelist Jerry Falwell and today serves nearly 20,000 graduate and postgraduate students.  Liberty University is within walking distance of the Extended Stay America Lynchburg - University Boulevard hotel.  Other local private colleges and universities include Virginia University of Lynchburg, Lynchburg College, Randolph College and Sweet Briar College.  Offering a variety of associate degree programs is Central Virginia Community College.  Lynchburgs location in the Blue Ridge Mountains makes it a great destination for those who enjoy the outdoor recreation.  Activities like hiking, cycling and canoeing are popular summer pastimes.  More traditional recreation like golf is available on one of Lynchburgs numerous public golf courses.   The 9-hole, par-34 Cedar Hills Golf Course is just four miles from the Extended Stay America Lynchburg - University Boulevard location.
