Located along the Alabama River, Montgomery boasts a diverse modern economy and the traditional southern hospitality that visitors have come to adore. Just minutes from downtown is Riverfront Park, with its iconic Splash Pad Amphitheater. The Splash Pad hosts productions ranging from rock performers to Broadway plays. This is just one of several stops along Montgomerys Riverwalk. Also nearby is Riverwalk Stadium, home to the Montgomery Biscuits, AA affiliates of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. East of downtown is the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park, home to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. The Shakespeare Festival is the fifth largest such festival in the world, drawing over 200,000 visitors annually. As beautiful on the outside as on the inside, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art houses an amazing collection of works by 19th and 20th Century American artists. Montgomery was at the center of the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The Civil Rights Memorial records the names of the individuals who lost their lives in this struggle. One unforgettable participant in this movement was Rosa Parks. The Rosa Parks Museum at Troy University provides unique insights into this amazing woman and the Montgomery Bus Boycott she helped to spark. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the most famous leader of the civil rights movement, is remembered at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, where he was pastor from 1954 to 1960. One of Montgomerys favorite sons and a country music icon is Hank Williams. Any fan of country music will want to visit the Hank Williams Museum, and die-hard Hank fanatics wont want to miss the life-size statue or Hanks 1952 baby blue Cadillac.
